10 reviews for Death Rocks A DCI Ryan Mystery (The DCI Ryan Mysteries Book 21)

  1. Ofah

A fast paced mystery, excellent plotting and great dialogue. Familiar characters and all set in a beautiful part of the country.I can’t wait for the next instalment in the series.

  2. Les Donkin

I have read all 21 books about DCI Ryan. I have totally enjoyed everyone of the books. L J Ross is a great author, Death Rocks was well written and kept you in suspense until the very end. It’s really canny how she brought in some of the other characters from previous books. In contrast a great series so far and I do hope there is more to come.

  3. Liz W

I’ve been with LJ Ross, Ryan and the team from the beginning and my 2024 reading resolution was to read the whole series from the beginning. But then (after getting to Dark Skies) I was delighted to discover Death Rocks had been released. And was an amazing surprise it was.I couldn’t put it down, even though the further I got I wanted to stop reading to try and avoid what I thought was going to happen.LJ, I think you’ve written your best DCI Ryan book. You took me on an amazing, emotional journey which had me both laughing and sobbing. Thank you.

  4. Lara Crewe-Hergest

Brilliant, so well written and a gripping storyline. Love DCI Ryan and his fantastic friends and colleagues. Thank you LJ Ross, long may Ryan continue!

Having read every book by LJ Ross, she never fails to disappoint!Love the characters and story lines with unexpected twists and turns. Thanks Louise, can’t wait for the next one.

  6. Tmgreed

This book brings a new team member & incident from the previous two books, as Ryan the team goto the Northumberland coast at Dunstanburgh to investigate what at first appears may be an accidental death. Wonderfully written it includes the humour & “romance” of the series. The further the team look into this and a death which happens a couple of days later, they find similarities with other recent deaths. This books returns to the style of the earliest books where there is an overriding story which covers a number of books. This unfortunately results in the only negative for the book – I can’t pick up the next in series right away.

  7. Manxcat

Oh my word, LJ Ross has outdone herself with this one!! I laughed, held my breath, cried… all on the same page sometimes. Great plot and the beginning of a new story arc leaving readers avidly trying to work out what could possibly happen next. A wonderful book, beautiful and deeply written.

Well firstly; what an absolute treat to wake up on Saturday, go for a scroll on Facebook to see an announcement that Death Rocks was out in ebook, I always pre order these books but I have to say I quite liked the random surprise and let me tell you, I dropped all my current reads to read this and devoured it all in the same day!Death Rocks is quite a dark whodunnit full of twists and you can’t forget the added humour which is my favourite – Ryan and Frank are quite the duo!I was so happy to be back with Ryan, Frank and the rest of the team and their families, having read this whole series I’ve become quite attached to them and this book definitely showed that for me with such a huge twist! I definitely felt ALL the emotions reading this and it had me on the edge of my seat. I am SO excited for book 22, Poison Garden. The DCI Ryan mysteries always give me the escapism I always love – a massive thank you to Louise for writing incredible stories and I look forward to reading the next book and finding out what happens next, especially after that insane cliff hanger!

Another blistering story by L J Ross.Cannot wait for the next book.I have read all 21 DCI Ryan books and have never tired of the journey. It has been some time waiting for the recent 2. But after reading them I am seriously considering starting again at the beginning and reading them all again. No spoilers, hate that. Just saying this is one if my favourite authors and keeping the stories fresh, with so long a series, is amazing. You can see and hear the characters, due to the snippets dropped in regarding their personnas, without them overpowering the storyline and being repeated every book, another pet hate. The writing is seamless, with no obscure words used so that you have to interrupt reading to look them up in the dictionary.Thank you for wonderful stories and interesting characters, without making them unbelievable, but falling effortlessly and naturally into th storyline.

  10. Dee Groocock

DCI Ryan doesn’t believe in coincidences, and with a rise in unexplained deaths, the team realise they may be on to something – the only problem is no evidence. How do you solve murders when the suspects have airtight alibis? The team need to start from the beginning and work their way through, again! This is a great whodunnit that makes for a compelling read. There is a good mix of dark, alongside some very funny humour now and then. Poor Frank does manage to drop himself in it somehow, in every single story, but you can’t help but smile at his antics.Ryan and Anna still have a wonderful relationship plus the added bonus of their beautiful daughter, Emma. The fabulous thing about these books is that, living in Northumberland, these places are well known. The descriptive writing makes me feel as though I’m seeing them for the very first time.I did find this story to be emotional at times. After reading these books from the start, I can’t not love the team and their families, they have all grown on me without even realising.
