  1. Nik

Integrates with my TV volume directly. Powers up my TV and switches the channel, which means I am now only using a single remote control. Streaming is excellent, response from the device is sharp and responsive and picture crisp on my 48″ screen. Voice recognition is accurate and apps available are more than adequate for my use (not had a ‘should have bought X’ moment). Price is right. All round winner.

I’ve had streaming boxes ie Shields and random unknown but recommended devices over the years, but having bought an expensive TV that did it all they all became redundant. But, my not even 2 year old TV now is suffering the typical fate of manufacturers selling it and forgetting it – ie apps have become buggy and unfixed or missing all together, and generally bloated performance wise. After a recent failing of YouTube on my TV I decided enough was enough, I’m going to try out the new Amazon Fire 4K Max sticks.Price – I mean it wasn’t hugely cheap, but it’s certainly not expensive in the grand scheme of media streamers and its certainly fully functional & if Amazon supports it like they do my very old fire tv stick on my bedroom TV which still performs brilliantly then it’s worth every penny.Hardware wise, the specifications themselves are strong but the hardware included in the box is all you’ll ever need, I’m not sure why there’s some negative reviews about the remote quality as I personally feel its no worse than a normal TV remote, maybe some slightly rougher edges that will soon round off in use, it gets its weight from the batteries & it feels just fine.Setup – as someone who’s dealt with complicated setups of streaming devices for years, the setup on the fire stick is down right boring – just pay attention to what it says on screen and you’ll be left with a paired remote that also controls your basic functions.Performance wise, wow.. this things faster than my Samsung QN95 TV UI, and Xbox Series X for comparison, and it loaded up my Plex server on the first-run, in a matter of a couple of seconds, no stutter no bother. All the main apps are avaliable on the store, Netflix, Disney, iPlayer, YouTube, Prime Video, ITVX, 4, 5, Luna, and more.Plus if your tech savvy you can side load additional applications with relative ease. The UI, is the typical Fire TV UI nothing has changed there, splash banner at the top of the home screen advertising Amazon Video content (hardly a surprise) then your list of apps, easy.Functionality wise, there’s enough settings in the settings menu to scale the screen properly to your TV if required, and sync up the sound if that’s an issue, HDR / Sound modes etc basic simple but enough there to fine tune to one’s specific setup should it be required.4K / HDR content plays with no issues at all from my Plex server, as does YouTube 4K etc.The Ambient mode, exclusive to the Max model I believe is a nice touch, basically a screen saver but more akin to an Echo Shows screen in that it displays the time, weather, reminders, etc after 5 minutes of being idle (or whatever time you set) – very quick to disappear and resume what you were doing, no slow down or stutter, just very “Nice”.The only gripe I’d have would be the fire stick itself still has a Micro USB port, I mean come on Amazon/Jeff, its 2023 and even the fruity crew are rocking USB-C now.Technical tip: I’d advise using the supplied power plug, or if you do decide to run it directly from a USB port from the TV if you see a power insufficient warning, just use the plug – the device won’t perform as it should and it will be unstable, possibly crash etc, while USB ports are rated for 5v (note the device wants 5.25v) it seldom actually manages a constant 5v.So, a great purchase for old dumb/redundant TVs (as long as they have an HDMI slot) to breath new life into them, but also nice even for modern/ year old hideously expensive TVs that get neglected by there manufacturers or the UI just isn’t as slick as you’d expect it to be.All in all, very happy with my purchase & will recommend to others.

What an amazing picture & so very easy to install the fire stick. From taking out of the box & watching was so very simple just follow the step by step instructions. Love the extra Ambient Experience so glad I upgraded & so much faster then the previous version which is brilliant but this is so much faster no buffing.& the remote is a vast improvement there are short cut buttons to make life easier. So glad made this decision as got the storage space as well.

I wanted to get TV streamed to a TV without a physical connection to an ariel or paid for streaming service. The Firestick did this, providing TV through the Internet and did so easily and successfully. Simple to use and has no monthly fees. Very pleased with it.

Well, I took the plunge and went for it. I purchased a hisense px2-pro ust projector and the picture quality was ok with the apps on sky q but the same apps on the firestick 4k? Simply Wow.The quality is a step above the others. No question.12 bit image is amazing.Sound is also amazing (sonos arc, sub and 2 era 300’s) so that’s covered too.I purchased the separate remote and network adapter so I can’t vouch for WiFi as I use patch cable for Internet connection but no problems there.App menu is snappy, no lag.Only downside is remote doesn’t have a programmable button on it.Happy? Definitely.

High quality stuff. Simple menu is very easy to use. Working perfectly with my 24 year old lcd tv. Easy setup. Highly recommended.

I have purchased Fire TV sticks since they first came out, and each version offer something new and/or better.I have 2 TV’s, one is 4K and the other is an older 1080p, but as you no doubt know, the apps supplied by the TV manufacturer can, and do change, which generally means you end up with half the original apps (if you are lucky) after 5 years, and why replace a perfectly good TV, when all you need to do is buy a Amazon TV stick, not only a lot cheaper but you will get all the very latest apps at the same time. These sticks are so easy to set up, as they ‘talk you through’ the process. The remotes also improves with each version, and I would advice that you purchase a 3rd party silicone cover to protect it, and they come is a massive range of colours for you to choose from. The remote requires 2 x AAA batteries which are included.I did however find that the “Alexa Voice Remote Pro”, that is compatible with this TV stick is better than the supplied one, and as I had already bought it for use with a previous stick, it was a ‘no brainer’ not to use it.There are a lot of new features on this device for example Wi-Fi 6e support… if you have a router that supports that. It also supports Dolby Vision (12-Bit HDR+) and Dolby Atmos, but once again you need a TV that support those standards for picture and sound, but there again it will make the TV Stick future proof when you do come to upgrade your TV.Not to forget the processor (now Quad-core 2.0 GHz) and memory (now 16GB) get an upgrade too, all making things run smoother.I am impressed with every ‘upgrade’ that comes along and I personally think these are good value for money.5 stars all day long from me.

If you’ve had a Firestick before, you know what to expect. You have decent app support, a fairly intuitive interface, and a pretty smooth experience.Of note – this one does draw/require a little more power than the previous one; I had it plugged into the USB port on my Samsung Odyssey G7 monitor (a pretty high end one) and it surprisingly wasn’t powerful enough to allow this stick to do the initial software updates, and so I had to plug it in with the actual plug. Not a deal breaker for me, but something to factor in.The general quality is, of course, good. 4K picture, more stable wi-fi connection than the previous generation now that it has 6E on-board (and this definitely showed – the speed at which UHD picture quality kicked in was much faster than my old Firestick 4K 1st gen), and while it doesn’t make a huge difference for me, I can see why the new Ambient Experience stuff will appeal to many people (good for those on OLEDs in particular, I imagine).

I got this to replace my previous Fire TV stick as I got a Trade in deal which made it worth it.The new 4K Stick is great, so responsive and snappy to load up apps. I’m guessing the improved processor and extra memory has solved all my issues!I also used to get an issue when using ITVX or Channel 4 where I would watch a program, turn the TV off and the next day the app would open but just hang until I did a hard reset. It got to a point where the first thing I would do is reset the device before watching. This is now gone!Great to have access to all the streaming services I want and to be able to take it with me when travelling.
