10 reviews for Nokia Streaming Box 8000, Android TV (Chromecast, HDMI, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+)

Very simple set up, nice interface, very smooth operation. Great quality streaming, picture and sound. I have HDMI connecting to a projector and audio out to an old but good stereo. It makes our fire stick seem incredibly clunky in comparison. This replaced a ten year old WD Live TV box which was once ahead of it’s time but it’s now obsolete, so this Nokia box really has revived our home cinema.I’ve always been a bit of a Nokia fan and this is a good example of why. Build quality is excellent it’s very small, has plenty of port options and the remote control is the best I’ve ever owned: Neatly laid out, slim but with a bit of weight to it and the buttons are backlit. It may not have iPlayer or ch4 but you can always cast them, although the picture quality isn’t so good but the sound’s in sync. I use it mostly for Plex in order to stream films from my PC.Would recommend this without hesitation.

Just to start, I see some people saying their Boxes were set for different Regions. You select region on initial set-up, so ignore those reviews. Now to Brass Tacks. Snappy performance, good interface, solid build quality, far better than the more expensive Mecool range and feel more expensive too. For those wanting something way more substantial memory wise than the Sticks this is a go-to

5 stars the update to andriod 12 is great and really good 4k streaming device, couldn’t get bbc on device but have managed sort that out and the remote with this is really good

I needed a 4k box that ran on android, but from a trusted name and brand. I had seen the reports online that showed a number of generic 4K ‘droid boxes could have malware on them. So, I opted to go with the Nokia branded box, because I have faith that they will only allow a license to a reputable firm. I have looked in the companies and yes, they all seem legitimate and no crazy data being sent or received by the box!So the background, all good at this point. Now onto the box.I LOVE the remote. It’s bluetooth, but old school. It has a number pad and works well controlling a brand new 2003 LG TV as well as my older Hisense TV’s. Oh, and it’s backlit! It runs on current version of AndroidTV and I was able to install things like Plex, TiviMate, Amazon and Prime video as well. All working flawlessly. This little sub £60 box (as at March 2024) has not had any of the reboot issues that have plagued by nvidia shield pro box – which has now been returned. Three Nokia boxes are the same overall cost of 1 Shield Pro!If I could, I would rate this even higher than 5/5, it really is that good!

Nokia 8000: Google CertifiedThe price point of the device is comparable to the Fire stick 4k max 2gen.The Nokia 8000 leaves you with 4.5 gig on first boot.Additional storage can be added easily 32 gig sandisk USB tested would be enough as an addition to external storage.Sandisk Storage: manufactured by Western Digital.Out of the box you have all you need and the 8000 boots at Android 10. It will then up date to Android 12.The stock os is Google TV.It achieves Developer so side loading is not an issue. It achieves ADB and mouse toggle. It would achieve Launcher for the personal touch.Tduk Cache Cleaner and app Killer achieved.BBC iPlayer however is not in its app store is not shown but can be achieved with version 0.4.7-dev. I can advise who has this. One of the cons is channel 4 or all 4 is not available and cannot be achieved as the application was only developed from channel 4 for Amazon devices and mobile.Device orientation app was tested with mobile version but failed to adjust launch orientation and show on the application tile screen. The remote is featured and had has good function. The 8000 almost achieves shield likeness but does not have the ports. You would need to go for the Nokia 8010 as the ports and onboard storage increases. Usually, I use an old Firestick on holidays to access streaming services, but we wanted to watch a particular series we have on a USB hard drive. So, for the cost of taking the family to the movies, I now own an Android box with USB ports. With the power block, cord, and the box/remote being bigger, it is a lot bigger than a Firestick but still reasonable to pack. I had to reformat my USB drive from NTFS to exFAT. Once this was done, it was straightforward to copy files from my NAS, which were then recognised on the Android box. I installed Kodi and VLC from the app store to play the videos. Worked out great.

Upon arriving the unit was very easy to install, a Google account is required but if you have Google home you’ll already be set. Having an android mobile makes the setup simple and with just a few clicks you’ll be connected and ready to use the device.Upon power up it allows for customisation for YouTube, Amazon Prime, Netflix and other Android TV apps. You can install other players if you desire. The integration to Google home is nice allowing the remote control to become a Google Assistant device.Picture and sound quality is good, well worth the money.

  9. alex

I’ve been ditching streaming services and paid subscriptions for a while now, especially on my phone, tablet and PCs since it’s a lot easier to get tools that allow you to do so on Android and Windows than it would be on other OS’s. The last thing I hadn’t been able to do that with was my TV, and this let me do that without issue. For obvious reasons. I’m not going to describe what I used, but there’s plenty of resources out there that will give you that information for free. Buy the box, do a little research, and thank me later.

Great box. The home screen feels like you’re using a smart TV. Love how the remote syncs with other devices. Massive plus was having tivimate already installed.Cannot recommend highly enough.
